Australian artist Dean Bowen is based in Melbourne

Dean Bowen has an extensive exhibiting career spanning over thirty years. He has held over seventy solo exhibitions in Australia, France, Japan, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. He has won many national and international awards including prizes in Japan in the Sapporo International Print Biennial, 1998 and the Osaka Print Triennale, 1994 and 1997. He was a finalist in the Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award in 2008 and 2003 and his paintings have been shortlisted for both the Sulman and Wynne prizes (Art Gallery of New South Wales).

Bowen has received a number of major commissions, including bronze sculpture commissions for Deakin University, Burwood Campus 2014, Wyndham City 2012, ACT Government 2011, Hobsons Bay City Council 2010, Canterbury Primary School, 2008 and the City of Greater Shepparton in 2006. In 1995 he was commissioned to design a major tapestry, Suburbanology for the Melbourne Town Hall. In 1994 he was awarded the Fremantle Print Prize.

Dean Bowen's work is represented in over 70 national and international collections including the National Gallery of Australia; Parliament House Collection Canberra; Heide Museum of Modern Art; Fukuoka Museum of Art, Japan; National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts; Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Dean Bowen's first monograph Argy Bargy by Sheridan Palmer was launched in 2009. Published by Macmillan Art Publishing, this richly illustrated book is a comprehensive overview of Bowen's artistic career and includes many images of paintings, sculpture and prints.
